Project Update: September 6, 2024
The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) is temporarily pausing the play structure renewal project at Mission Creek Regional Park. We have heard the feedback and we are listening.
The project start has been delayed until spring 2025 to allow for further evaluation of accessibility standards, scheduling and material availability. This extra time will ensure that we can address the community’s concerns.
The RDCO remains committed to providing safe and enjoyable recreational spaces across the region. We look forward to delivering an upgraded playground that will serve our community for years to come.
We appreciate the community’s input and patience as we work to ensure the best possible outcome for this project.
In 2012, the Mission Creek Regional Park playground was expanded in consultation with the community. Improvements included adding swings, a rope climbing structure, a multi-sensory play area and safety surfacing. The timber playground structure installed in 1997 met the needs of the community at the time and remained in place.
Due to the timber playground structure’s age, condition, and ability to continue to meet safety requirements in an effective manner it is scheduled to be replaced in 2024. A similar structure would include slides, raised walkways, monkey bars and interactive play panels.
Survey
The survey has now closed. We received more than 225 survey completions. Please see the survey report in the document section below. All feedback will be considered along with other technical and financial considerations.
